More Than a Soloist ...

You may know me as a soloist, but I often perform as part of a duo, trio or larger band.

I have found a great way to provide more value, variety and entertainment is to work with other musicians who also play more than one instrument.

So for example, you can have a trio with three musicians playing six instruments. I recently provided such a unit for a large event at the Museum of the African Disapora in San Francisco, featuring:

Two different kinds of steel drums
Latin percussion
Latin guitar
Quatro/Ukelele
Good old electric guitar

-- all from three musicians.

The client was very pleased with the sounds, and the interesting visual impact.

Education in the Community

I also do educational work with community groups, teaching guitar and steel drum, or providing musical and informative presentations.

World Guitar: I’m offering a beginning World Guitar class through Daly City Park and Rec beginning in March, with another section starting in May. When I started on guitar, we had to learn folk songs like Tom Dooley. I thought it might be more fun to have a beginner’s class using songs by artists like Bob Marley and Buena Vista Social Club. Steel Drum Programs: Last summer I had the opportunity to set up a youth steel drum program in San Francisco. A full complement of steel drums (bass, mid-range, treble) were handcrafted by a master maker in Trinidad and shipped to SF in under six weeks! Steel drum programs are popular with schools and youth groups because of the instrument’s accessibility.

I’m also doing some hands-on steel drum seminars with community groups. This can be a fun activity for any group. E-mail me for info or call me at 650-520-5141.

Thanks!
